Thank you to @motifmagri for giving me the opportunity to memorialize my dear friend and collaborator @duckycarlisle. This issue hit the streets yesterday.

All day I’ve had this random Paul Simon refrain

All day I’ve had this random Paul Simon refrain ringing in my ears, for no particular reason. Then I find out it happens to be Paul’s birthday. (Side note, I’ve ugly-cried every day for weeks over the loss of two great friends -slash- major musical partners in my life). I text back my mom to thank her for her beautiful words of consolation to me, and she quotes back to me, of all things, Paul Simon lyrics. None of these coincidences make any sense, yet there they are, presented to me maybe only to remind me of the power of music, something I’m in a bit of love/hate relationship with at the moment. For the time being, I guess this is a Happy Birthday, Paul Simon post.

Another absolutely devastating, heartbreaking loss

Another absolutely devastating, heartbreaking loss- the second one in a month for me. Ducky was the mastermind behind my first two solo albums, doing most of the recording, mixing and drumming. He taught me most of what I know about recording and mixing. He let me drink a beer out of his Grammy award. He encouraged skinny-dipping in Wright’s Pond. And he was a beloved friend (brother, as we called each other), laugh riot and larger-than-life personality. There will always be that empty space in my chest that is reserved for you. RIP Duck.
